Join Chicago Council on Science and Technology for Science in the Second City!
CHICAGO, Illinois (June 3, 2014) –Enjoy stimulating conversation with Chicago’s scientific, business and philanthropic community, become immersed in hands-on science exhibits and demonstrations, and enjoy a stunning view of the Chicago skyline at the Adler Planetarium on Thursday, June 5. Join C2ST for our forth benefit, Science in the Second City.
The evening will be hosted by Brandis Friedman, Correspondent and Content Producer for Chicago Tonight, our local PBS affiliate, WTTW Channel 11. In her first year at Chicago Tonight, Friedman has covered a variety of stories across Chicago neighborhoods, and interviewed newsmakers such as Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Michelin-starred chef Graham Elliot and author and activist Temple Grandin. As a special projects producer and fill-in reporter for DC’s ABC affiliate, WJLA-TV, she had the privilege of covering multiple major news events, including President Obama’s historic first inauguration. Brandis was also rewarded for her work with three regional Emmy Awards. She also has experience working on Capitol Hill, as a deputy communications director for the House Committee on Science and Technology, in 2007.
The recipient of Chicago Council on Science and Technology’s “Advancing the Public Understanding of Science & Technology Award’ will be fêted at the event as well. C2ST created this award in 2012 to honor individuals who share in the passion and mission of the organization—to increase the awareness of the great R&D taking place in our region. Join us as we honor the recipient of this year’s award, Dr. Janice Feinberg. Feinberg, President of the Joseph and Bessie Feinberg Foundation, is active in support of access to health care, STEM education, and medical research, among other causes.
The evening includes cocktails and a plated dinner, and a silent auction and raffle, featuring the hottest tickets to Chicago’s sport scene, fine art, private tours of the gems of the museum campus, a sunset cruise on a private yacht, as well as an eclectic assortment of fine wines.

This level of scientific literacy is insufficient to sustain a healthy democratic society or to assure rational consideration of major scientific issues.
