C2ST is partnering with AKHAN Semiconductor, Warren Township High School, the Village of Gurnee and College of Lake County for Lake County’s first-ever hackathon

For 26 hours on January 28th-29th, 150 students from the local area high schools and the College of Lake County will gather to collaborate on projects within the subjects of Energy Efficiency, Health/BioPharma, and Societal/Human Services. This will be a great opportunity for students to have fun, compete for prizes, and learn new skills. For adults who wish to participate, registration is open for volunteers, mentors, and judges (see below for details).

What is a “Hackathon”?

Don’t worry; we’re not going to be illegally accessing government or corporate databases. A hackathon is an invention marathon. Programmers, designers, builders and more come together to learn, build, and share their creations over the course of a few days. “Hacking” is a term which is used to describe the act of quickly and intelligently creating a real application/solution that others can use.

Who can participate?

This is an event for upperclassmen high school and junior college students. High school students within the Lake County area and college students in the Chicagoland area are welcome to apply. We are also looking for adult volunteers and mentors and judges with experience in one of these three subjects: Energy Efficiency, Health/BioPharma, or Societal/Human Services. Volunteers are needed for help with visitor sign ins and management of students/participants throughout the event. No experience in the three subjects is required for volunteers. Mentors are needed to help guide the participating teams with the possibility of leading a workshop. Volunteers and Mentors can register for any length of time that they can give. Judges will be needed on Sunday morning to decide the winners of Devil Hack 1.00. Judges will be needed for Sunday morning. Mentors and volunteers can be judges as long as they have some experience in the three subjects. IDs of all participants will be scanned at the door for the student’s safety using the Raptor visitor management system.
